Troubled Teen Boarding Schools

There are many choices when it comes to selecting a boarding school for a troubled teen. There are also several different types of philosophies when it comes to teen boarding schools. Some schools work on a points and or level system, where the students are rewarded when they make positive choices. They also receive a consequence when they choose negatively. These types of programs have proven to be less effect when the student leaves, he or she doesn’t have someone watching their every move. They may even be afraid to leave the safety of the program for this reason. They know that they can not trust themselves to choose correctly.

Positive Peer Method

Students that work through a program that includes more of a positive peer type method are many times more successful. The reason may be due to the students being allowed to suffer the natural consequences of their poor decisions. This works because in a controlled environment the poor choices a student can make are fairly limited. They are usually much less dramatic than the choices a student could make at home.

Speaking Honestly

In an effort to be open and honest, we would like say that there are some teens that will not be totally helped by any program. They may learn to make some positive choices, and learn to be more productive than they might have previously been. It is important to understand this fact when searching for help for any troubled teen. It is also important to understand that many teens slip back into negative behaviors shortly after they return home from a program. This is due in part to the increased amount of freedom that they receive. In many cases, the teen is able to recover and begin moving forward in a more positive way. The puppy programs have an open communication line for any of their former students. They are able to call in and receive help and support at any time they feel the need.
