Tipton Academy

Tipton Academy was our first Puppy Program; it was established in June of 2005. Tipton begin helping teen boys with the assistance of training a therapy dog. The benefits have been tremendous. The boys soon realize that they are involved in something that will eventually help someone else. There are multiple life lessons associated with the dog training process. Staff can sometimes use the dog to assist in training the trainer. Over the past few years Tipton Academy boys have been able to attend several dog graduation ceremonies. This is a very touching experience for all involved.

Tipton Academy and Strength Based Aproach

Tipton Academy uses the positive peer style program. This type of program places a lot more accountability on the boys. We believe that the results speak for themselves. It is only logical that when a student learns to make the right choices for the right reasons they are much more likely to succeed. If a student is constantly hovered over and forced to make correct decisions, more than likely they will stop making correct choices when they are not hovered over. When a student is able to realize that all decisions have consequences, they can begin to make progress. Often times we use the following statement: “We live by the choices we make”. (author unknown)
